BC Hockey announced that Arshdeep Bains of the Valley West Hawks has been named the Major Midget League (MML) Player of the Month for October 2017. The 5’11” forward from Surrey, BC racked up 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in the 10 games in September and October.
Bains, 16, serves as an alternate captain of the Hawks and has helped the team to a current record of 11-1. He currently leads the MML in goals, assists and scoring, sitting four (4) points ahead of his teammate Nolan Krogfoss (Surrey, BC).
Off the ice, Bains volunteers with other members of Valley West for the ‘Hawks Give Back’ community program where the players participate in Surrey Minor Hockey Association programs promoting the MML.
Bains was chosen from a high-calibre list of other nominees, including: Hunter Floris (Cariboo Cougars), Justin Plett (Fraser Valley Thunderbirds), Garrett Wicks (Greater Vancouver Canadians), Erik Delaire (Kootenay Ice), Ethan Jones (North Island Silvertips), Mitchell Gove (Okanagan Rockets), Connor Cheyne (South Island Royals), Cole Nisse (Thompson Blazers), Zack Dallazana (Vancouver North East Chiefs), and Jason Chu (Vancouver North West Giants).
The MML was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year-olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship.
