Swift Current, SK: Glenn Gawdin has put the disappointment of the 2017 NHL Draft behind him as big news arrived for the 20-year-old captain of the Swift Current Broncos.
After not signing a contract with the St. Louis Blues after being chosen in the 2015 NHL Draft and going unselected in the 2017 NHL Draft this past spring, the Richmond, BC native was invited to Calgary Flames training camp before the WHL regular season. Gawdin’s strong play to the season in Swift Current helped him land a three-year, entry level contract with the NHL’s Calgary Flames.
The Flames announced the signing of Gawdin on Thursday after the Swift Current captain put up 40 points (14g-26a) in 18 games to sit third in the WHL scoring race.
Listed at 6’1, and 186 pounds, Gawdin has been critical to the Broncos early season success as the club sits second in the WHL’s East Division, posting a 13-4-1-0 record.
Taken fifth overall at the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, Gawdin has skated his entire WHL career with the Broncos, including 263 games up to date. Gawdin has recorded 228 points (84g-144a) to go along with a plus-37 rating and 12 game winning goals. Furthermore, he has notched 13 points (7g-6a) in 24 career WHL playoff games.
The Broncos head west to battle the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday, November 17th before returning home to host the Calgary Hitmen at the Innovation Credit Union I-Plex on Saturday, November 18th.
