The Western Hockey League announced today Moose Jaw Warriors forward Jayden Halbgewachs has been named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending November 19, 2017.
Halbgewachs led his club to three wins last week, recording 11 points (6G-5A) in the process as the Warriors continued to lead the East Division. Last Tuesday, Halbgewachs recorded a hat trick as part of a five-point night as the Warriors downed their divisional rivals from Swift Current. Halbgewachs had a pair of goals on the power play, the second of which stood up as the game’s insurance goal.
In a 5-4 loss to the Saskatoon Blades the next night, Halbgewachs recorded a pair of even-strength assists. Friday at home against the Calgary Hitmen, Halbgewachs helped his team return to the win column with a pair of goals in a 5-2 win. Saturday, Halbgewachs wrapped up his productive week with a goal and an assist as the Warriors returned the favour to the Blades, winning a 6-3 result at Mosaic Place.
Halbgewachs was recognized as the first star Tuesday in both Swift Current and the WHL’s nightly stars. Halbgewachs’ big week helped him extend his point streak to nine games, where he has 21 points (13G-8A) in that span.
That nine-game point streak is a big part of what has been a career year so far for the free agent forward. With 38 points (20G-18A) in 23 games, Halbgewachs is producing at a rate of 1.65 points-per-game, better than his 1.42 rate last year that led him to being one of just five players in the league to reach triple-digit points. Halbgewachs sits fourth in the league with 20 goals, which also leads the Warriors. His 38 points have him tied for fourth in league scoring.
In 227 career WHL games, Halbgewachs has recorded 189 points (89G-100A), including 19 power play goals and five short-handed goals. Halbgewachs, a 5-foot-8, 165-pound native of Emerald Park, Sask., was originally a first round selection, 19th overall, by the Kamloops Blazers in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
