Along with the X games, the Dew Tour is undoubtedly one of the most important contests of the season for halfpipe and slopestyle athletes. Over five days, from December 13 to 17, Breckenridge hosts the world’s best freeskiers and comes alive from morning to night with heart-stopping action sports on snow. Though the competition comes across as a spectacle, the Canadian athletes are there with the firm intention of sustaining their early-season momentum. It’s worth recalling that Evan McEachran recently finished second at the FIS Slopestyle World Cup in Stubai, and Noah Bowman and Simon d’Artois did well at the FIS Halfpipe World Cup in Copper Mountain, finishing second and third respectively.
The platinum event for the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) returns this year with a more traditional formula, since it serves as the Olympic qualifiers for the American freestyle ski teams. Last year, we might recall, Dew Tour organizers had suggested that the course be divided in two, with one portion for jumps and a second for rail jams.
The slopestyle athletes all have their tickets to the 2017 edition of the Dew Tour. Last year, Alex Beaulieu-Marchand distinguished himself with a third-place podium, thanks to a successful combo on the rails portion of the contest. Beaulieu-Marchand also did well in the Streetstyle competition in downtown Breckenridge, but it was teammate Alex Bellemare who walked away with top honours after an astonishing display of creativity on the rails.
The halfpipe discipline returns to Breckenridge for the 2017 edition of the Dew Tour after being cancelled last year by organizers for lack of snow. Veteran Mike Riddle, no stranger to success at this popular event, will be accompanied by teammates Noah Bowman, Simon d’Artois and Brendan Mackay. On the ladies’ side, Cassie Sharpe, participating for the third time, will certainly be looking to match her 2015 performance, when she finished second. Groenewoud also shone in this event by coming in second in 2012.
The following athletes will compete in the 2017 Dew Tour
