Mariners Results from the Minor League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Seattle Mariners announced today from the MLB Winter Meetings the results of the Minor League phase of the Rule 5 Draft:

 

  • Joseph Odom, C, selected from Atlanta in the Triple-A Phase of the Rule 5 Draft.
  • Tyler Baker, C, selected from Arizona in the Triple-A Phase of the Rule 5 Draft.
  • Lane Ratliff, LHP, selected by Arizona in the Triple-A Phase of the Rule 5 Draft.


Odom
, 25 (turns 26 on Jan. 9), combined to hit .266 (17×64) with 5 runs, 3 doubles, 1 home run and 8 RBI in 28 games between AA Mississippi and AAA Gwinnett in the Atlanta organization in 2017. He spent most of the season with AA Mississippi, where he hit .298 (17×57) with 5 runs, 3 doubles, 1 home run and 8 RBI in 25 games.

 

In parts of five minor league seasons in the Braves organization, Odom is a career .242 (210×866) hitter with 101 runs, 48 doubles, 3 triples, 23 home runs and 112 RBI in 275 career games. He was originally selected by Atlanta in the 13th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Huntingdon College (Montgomery, AL).

 

Baker, 24, split the season between A Midland and High-A Visalia in the Arizona organization. Baker, a left-handed batter, combined to hit .238 (51×214) with 26 runs, 11 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 15 RBI in 63 games.

 

In parts of four minor league seasons in the Arizona organization, he has hit .232 (187×807) with 94 runs, 48 doubles, 5 triples, 16 home runs and 96 RBI in 239 games. He was selected by Arizona in the 15th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Wichita State University.

 

Ratliff, 22, combined for a record of 3-2 with a 5.13 ERA (23 ER, 40.1 IP) with 33 strikeouts and 22 walks in 14 games (6 starts) between AAA Tacoma, A Clinton and short-A Everett in 2017. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound left-hander appeared in 2 games with Tacoma, posting an ERA of 9.00 (3 ER, 3.0 IP) with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks. He spent most of the 2017 season with Clinton, where he went 2-2 with a 4.45 ERA (14 ER, 28.1 IP) with 21 strikeouts and 14 walks in 10 games (5 starts). In 2 games, including 1 start, with Everett, he was 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA (6 ER, 9.0 IP) with 10 strikeouts and 5 walks.

 

In parts of 4 minor league seasons in the Mariners organization, Ratliff has a career record of 6-8 with 2 saves and a 5.98 ERA (72 ER, 108.1 IP) with 112 strikeouts and 55 walks in 50 games, including 16 starts. He was originally selected by Seattle in the 6th round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Jones County Junior College (Ellisville, MS).
