Rockets Win In A Shootout

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kamloops Blazers 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday night at Prospera Place in their first game back since the holiday break.

It took until 1:14 into the middle frame but Kole Lind(17) got the Rockets on the board with his team leading 44th point. Kelowna led 1-0 after two periods.

With just 1:18 remaining Joe Gatenby(8) finally beat James Porter for Kamloops to even things at 1-1. The game needed overtime.

Overtime solved nothing and the B.C. Division rivals were headed to a shootout.

The shootout went as follows:

Rockets win 2-1 in a shootout.

James Porter’s record improves 14-5-2-0 after stopping 46 of the 47 shots he faced as the Rockets were out shot 47-22.

Kelowna’s record improves to 21-11-2-0.

Kelowna was without Rockets Captain Cal Foote and Rockets Assistant Captain Dillon Dube as they are in Buffalo, NY taking part in the World Junior Championships for Team Canada. With Dube captaining the squad, they are currently 2-0-0-0 in round robin play after defeating Slovakia 6-0 on Wednesday. They play again on Friday at 12:00pm PST facing off against the United States.

The Rockets are back in action again on Friday, December 29th when they head to Kamloops for a rematch. Puck drop on Friday is at 7:00pm.

Kelowna is back home again on Saturday, December 30th when they host the Victoria Royals for another holiday B.C. Division battle. Puck drop on Saturday is at 7:o5pm.
