Lake Placid has hosted the Olympics twice, and this is where Freestyle Canada’s aerials athletes will know, on January 19 and 20, if they get to experience the thrill of competition in this year’s Games. Indeed, this is their last chance to get the hoped-for results to qualify.
While Catrine Lavallée, Lewis Irving and Olivier Rochon prepare for their last event of the Olympic qualifiers, Travis Gerrits has chosen to withdraw from the process in order to focus on healing. Gerrits, who competed in the Sochi Olympics in 2014, anticipates devoting the next few months to rehabilitation. “I’ve had my share of injuries during my career and the time has come to take care of myself. I might not be at the Games this year, but my goal is nonetheless to get back in top mental and physical shape and be ready for the next phase, whatever that might be.”
The aerialists will take to the ramp at the Olympic Jumping Complex in a double aerials program on January 19 and 20. The final rounds will be held in the evening.
