The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Victoria Royals 8-4 on Saturday night at Prospera Place.

Kole Lind(22) got the Rockets on the board first ripping a shot past Royals netminder Griffen Outhouse 3:18 into the opening frame. Rockets Captain Cal Foote(9) extended Kelowna’s lead to two after sneaking in from the point and redirecting a pass from Dillon Dube at 4:33. Dube(21) scored a power play marker at 8:20 to give the Rockets a three goal cushion. Victoria replied on a power play of their own before the period was out as Tyler Soy notched his 22nd and Kelowna led 3-1 after 20 minutes.

Kyle Topping(17) regained the Rockets three goal lead 31 seconds into the middle period for Kelowna’s second power play tally of the evening. Matthew Phillips(32) cut into the Rockets lead at 12:23 responding on another Royals power play. Dante Hannoun(20) scored Victoria’s third power play goal of the night at 14:14, but it was the Rockets who prevailed on the next Royals power play as Leif Mattson(15) scored Kelowna’s 11th shorthanded marker of the season at 17:03 and the home team led 5-3 after 40 minutes of play.

Just 16 seconds into the final frame Jack Cowell(9) scored for Kelowna before Carsen Twarynski notched his team leading 30th of the season 43 seconds later to give the Rockets a commanding 7-3 lead. Victoria pulled their goalie with seven minutes remaining to attempt to mount a comeback, but with 5:32 to go Cowell(10) tucked one into the empty net to give the Rockets an 8-3 lead. With 4:22 to go Igor Martynov(15) was awarded a penalty shot and he made no mistake, but that would be it from the Royals as the Rockets skate to an 8-4 victory.

The Rockets enjoyed multi-point evenings from Kole Lind(1G, 3A), Jack Cowell(2G), Cal Foote(1G, 1A), Dillon Dube(1G, 1A), Leif Mattson(1G, 1A), Nolan Foote(2A), James Hilsendager(2A), and Conner Bruggen-Cate(2A).

Kelowna’s record improves to 29-14-2-1.
