WOLFVILLE, N.S – Acadia University’s Department of Athletics and volleyball head coach Michelle Wood are pleased to announce the commitment of Kassandra Hordal to the Axewomen in the fall of 2018.
From Edmonton, Alta., Hordal is a 5’6″ Libero who chose Acadia for several reasons including Acadia’s close-knit community.
“I chose Acadia because of the environment along with the opportunities to play the sport I love. Being so far from home, I needed to be at a place that I felt comfortable and had its own ‘home’ feeling to it. The experience was something I simply could not give up,” said Hordal.
A member of the Jasper Place High School Rebel volleyball team, Hordal was selected to the 2017 City All-Star team where she was named most valuable player. While with the Rebels, Hordal won a City Championship in 2015 and 2017 and a Provincial Championship in 2016.
Along with high school volleyball, Hordal is a member of the Pandas Volleyball Club, where she captured Gold in all three U16 Premiers and a Provincial U17 Silver Medal along with being named as a Provincial All-Star.
Beyond her club and high school playing, Hordal was a member of the U16 Team Alberta and the Youth National Development Team in 2016.
“I am really looking forward to my volleyball career growing in a new environment. I am excited to learn a lot from Coach Wood, along with the other coaches as well. I am also very excited to meet new people, create new memories to bring back home”, commented Hordal.
“From the first match I watched Kassy compete, I immediately got a sense of her competitiveness, drive for excellence and her overall athleticism. Kassy has a history of athletic success as a Provincial team member with gymnastics, track and field and volleyball. Her leadership, strong reading skills and touch on the ball will be an incredible asset to our program,” noted Wood.
Hordal will be studying Kinesiology while attending Acadia University.
