Red Deer Prevails In OT

The Red Deer Rebels defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night in Red Deer.

It took until 14:41 into the second period but Leif Mattson(17) got the Rockets on the board first. Rebels forward Mason McCarty(25) evened things at 1-1 at 17:33 and that was the score after 40 minutes.

1:25 into the third Josh Tarzwell(5) scored a shorthanded goal to pull the Rebels ahead by one. Red Deer held onto that lead until 33 seconds remaining when Kole Lind(26) evened things up at 2-2. For the third game in a row the Rockets were headed to overtime.

In overtime Kristian Reichel(17) ended the Rockets win streak at three scoring on a rebound at 2:46.

Cole Tisdale’s record is now 2-0-1-0 after stopping 19 of 22 shots he faced. Kelowna outshot Red Deer 43-22.

The Rockets record falls to 31-14-3-1.

Kelowna will be back at Prospera Place on Tuesday, January 30th when they face the Medicine Hat Tigers in a re-match of last night.
