Trinity Western’s Regan Yee

Trinity Western fifth-year Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.) broke the Spartans 3000m record, clocking a program-best and U SPORTS-leading 8:58.29 to finish third overall at the University of Washington Invitational Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.


Yee, who won a silver medal in the 3000m at last year’s U SPORTS championships, was bettered only by Sifan Hassan (8:34.45), who won bronze in the 5000m at last year’s IAAF World Championships and gold at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 1500m, and Shalane Flanagan (8:43.28), who is the American record-holder in the 3000m. The fifth-year Spartan also crushed her personal best of 9:07.59, which she posted at last year’s Husky Classic at the University of Washington.


Meanwhile, Mirelle Martens (Grande Prairie, Alta.) posted a time of 5:01.12 in the mile, while Joanna Williams (Campbell River, B.C.) finished the mile in 5:17.86.


On the men’s side, Nick Colyn (Langley, B.C.) had the top time of the day for TWU in the mile, finishing in 4:09.97. Adam Marshall (Langley) led the Spartans in the 800m, crossing in 1:54.57.
