Portland, OR – The Victoria Royals dropped an 8-5 decision to the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday night at the Moda Center as Tyler Soy set the all-time franchise record for most career goals.

Super Soy – After registering a hat-trick in tonight’s game, Royals’ forward Tyler Soy (142) surpassed former Chilliwack Bruin Ryan Howse for the most all-time career goals in franchise history. Howse recorded a total of 140 goals over 262 career WHL games.

 

Staying Hot – A pair of Victoria skaters extended their point streaks. Matthew Phillips has found the score sheet in 15 consecutive games where he has recorded 29 points (11g-18a), while Tyler Soy has eight points (4g-4a) over three straight contests.

 

Three Goal Night –  Soy’s hat-trick tonight marked the sixth of his career, and his first three-goal night since January 29, 2017 when he scored four goals against the Vancouver Giants.

Familiar Foe – Royals’ defender Jared Freadrich and Winterhawks’ forward Skyler McKenzie spent time as teammates in minor hockey. The pair played together for the Sherwood Park Kings Midget AAA of the Alberta Midget Hockey League during the 2013-14 campaign.
