WolfPack open Western Canadian Curling Championships with victory

WINNIPEG, MB—The Corryn Brown foursome is off and running at the Western Canadian University curling championships.

Brown and her rink consisting of third Erin Pincott, second Dezaray Hawes and lead Samantha Fisher are representing the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack at this event, which is hosted by the University of Winnipeg.

TRU opened up the round robin with an 8-3 victory over the University of Alberta Pandas on Friday (Feb 9).

After being down 1-0 after the first end,  Brown and her foursome notched singles in the second and third ends, added two in both the sixth, seventh and ninth ends.

TRU stole three ends in the game.

Alberta is being skipped by Kristen Streifel.

Action resumes Saturday with the WolfPack  facing Lethbridge’s Krista Shortridge at 7 am (CDT) and then facing the host rink skipped by Christine MacKay at noon (CDT).

TRU’s final round robin game will come Sunday (Feb 11) at 7 am CDT against Regina’s Haylee Jameson.

The Westerns are being held at the Heather Curling Club in Winnipeg.    The USPORTS Nationals will be held next month at Leduc, Alberta and are hosted by the University of Alberta.
