NORTH SAANICH, B.C. – The Victoria Cougars erased a two-goal first period deficit to down the Peninsula Panthers 4-2 on Family Day.

Mateo Albinati, Jaden McNulty, and Foster Martin each scored in the middle frame while Zefan Pighin notched an insurance goal with 12 minutes left in regulation.

For the 1999-born Albinati, who was celebrating his 19th birthday, it was his team-leading 21st goal of the season.

The Cougars again received outstanding goaltending from Patrick Ostermann who turned aside 22 shots.

With the win, Victoria improves to 23-20-2-1.

Logan Speirs and Brendan Martin replied for the Panthers.  Tagged with the loss was Connor McKillop who made 18 saves.

It was a spirited affair.

Peninsula finished 1-for-9 on the power play; meanwhile, the Cougars went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the VIJHL, Matt Ubriaco had a goal and an assist to lead the Campbell River Storm to a 3-1 win over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.

Next game for Victoria is Wednesday, February 14 versus the Westshore Wolves.  Game time at The Q Centre, located at 1767 Island Highway, is 7:00 p.m.
