The Eves of Destruction’s A-Team fought hard in their debut as Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) members, but were unable to overcome the experienced Rat City Roller Derby’s Grave Danger Saturday night (Feb. 17th), falling 271-166 at Shoreline, WA’s The Rat’s Nest Sports Club.
The game marked the first time three Eves players — Ruby Roughhouser, Kariac Arrest and Rosie the Ruiner — were called up to play at the league’s highest level. It was also “The Return of Rage!” — who is back on the roster after a one year sabbatical from the Eves which included trip to the Roller Derby World Cup with Team Indigenous. A-Team Co-Captain Toombstone says she likes what she sees with this year’s roster:
“We definitely found we coalesced throughout the game. While we found many points of strength we also discovered things to work on in the upcoming season. Grave Danger is a welcoming athletic team and we had a great time”
MVP awards were presented to Rage (A-Team – Jammer) and Damage Cuntrol (Grave Danger – Jammer), and The Frenzie (A-Team – Blocker) and Neigh Hi Nightmare (Grave Danger – Blocker).
The A-Team is back at it April 20-22 at the Northern Exposure Tournament in Prince George, BC. Roller Derby returns to Victoria on April 7th for the 2018 Home Opener featuring the Eves’ Belles of the Brawl vs. Squamish’s Sea to Sky Sirens and the Eves’ Margarita Villains vs. Nanaimo’s Harbour City Rollers.
