Prince George, BC – The Victoria Royals were defeated by the Prince George Cougars 2-1 in overtime on Friday night at the CN Centre as the club clinched a spot in the 2018 WHL Playoffs.

Playoff Bound – After collecting a point in tonight’s contest, the Victoria Royals have secured a spot in the 2018 WHL Playoffs for the seventh consecutive season since they moved to Vancouver Island.

 

Milestone Night – With an assist tonight, Royals’ Captain Matthew Phillips registered his 101st point of the campaign and tied former Chilliwack Bruin Mark Santorelli for the franchise record for the most points in a single season. Santorelli collected 101 points (27g-74a) for the Bruins during 2007-08.

 

Going the Distance After tonight’s overtime contest, Victoria’s record sit at 9-6 when the game goes beyond 60 minutes, which include a pair of victories in the shootout. This ties the single season franchise record for most games to go beyond regulation, which happened in both 2012-13 and 2006-07.
