The Highlanders are pleased to announce the signing of two new players to their roster for the upcoming 2018 Premier Development League (PDL) season. Midfielder Marcus Campanile and Defender Peter Schaale, pending International (ITC) clearance.
The two University of Cape Breton (UCB) players are coming off a hugely succesful U SPORTS season in which they led their team to win the 2017 National Championships. Marcus Campanile, a former U-20 player for Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen FC, will be looking to make an impact right away with the Highlanders in his first year with Victoria.
“I’m looking forward to playing in the PDL with quality players and coaches. It’s an opportunity for me to progress both on and off the field,” stated Campanile. “Having spoken with Thomas and the owners, I can tell they are really passionate about making the Highlanders a success this season and I can’t wait to be a part of that process and make the community feel that too.”
Joining Campanile at the Highlanders will be another first year player in German international defender Peter Schaale. Developing his skills on the fields of Bundesliga side FC Köln, Schaale played a major role for the University of Cape Breton in the 2017 U SPORTS National Championships and is looking to carry over his success to the Highlanders PDL season.
“I hope I can grow and learn as a player and also as an individual by committing to the Highlanders and also the community, “ stated Schaale. “I hope the city of Victoria is excited about the upcoming PDL season. Thomas is a very experienced and highly rated coach in Germany and the ownership group seems to be very committed, which is an important foundation for a successful season.”
