VICTORIA – The University of Victoria men’s and women’s golf teams wrapped up play down in Indio, Calif. on March 27 and for the Vikes men, they will be coming home with a couple new pieces of hardware.

Playing in the Desert Intercollegiate on the Terra Lago Golf Course, the Vikes men absolutely dominated the 20-team field. Bruce TomieMike GriffinJosh Miller and Lawren Rowe finished first, second, third and fourth as the Vikes nearly swept the individual leaderboard en route to posting a score of 903 as a team, a full 48 strokes better than any other team in the tournament.

Battling gusts of wind that wreaked havoc on the rest of the field, Tomie proved the most adept at dealing with the less than favourable conditions.

The fourth-year Vike posted rounds of 75, 72 and 77 en route to capturing his second individual title of the season. Griffin, Miller and Rowe finished with scores of 226, 227 and 228 respectively to cement the Vikes firm grip on first place.

Just kilometres down the road the Vikes women were in action at the Bulldog Classic. They gained one position on their second day of play to finish the tournament in sixth-place.

Taking two strokes off their round as a team in round two, the Vikes finished the tournament with a score of 640, just three strokes behind fourth-place Pomona-Pitzer.

Individually, Cadence Hellmann and Quinn Fitzgerald both finished the tournament in the top-20. Hellmann earned 15th-place with rounds of 79 and 78 while Fitzgerald’s scores of 79 and 79 saw her finish in 20th.

Rounding out the scorers were Nicole Gargarella (161), Hannah Diamond (166) and Rhiannon Jones(170).

The tournaments were the final regular season action of the season for both the Vikes men and women as they now begin to prepare for the A.I.I Regional Championships, hosted in Phoenix, AZ from Apr. 30- May. 1.
