Cougars Wins leader commits to Alabama

Patrick Ostermann

Patrick Ostermann has committed to the University of Alabama for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

“I can’t thank the Victoria Cougars enough for helping me reach my dream of playing university hockey.  I truly believe Victoria is one of the best junior programs in the country,” Ostermann said.  “The coaches, ownership, trainers, billets, board members, and volunteers are all top notch.”

Acquired via trade, Ostermann shined in his one year with Victoria.  The six-foot, 175-pound goaltender posted a 2.81 goals against average, a .912 save percentage, and led all VIJHL goaltenders with 19 wins.

“I’m very happy with Ozzy [Ostermann].  He worked very hard this past season and has earned the opportunity to be a starter at Alabama,” Cougars head coach Suneil Karod said.

The University of Alabama is an independent without a conference in the NCAA and play their games out of the Pelham Civic Complex.  They finished last season with an overall record of 23-9-1.

“I leaned on Ozzy heavily in and out of the room to be a leader and to make the saves we needed,” Karod said.  “Without him I don’t think we would have gotten as many wins as we had.  We wish him luck as he continues his hockey career.”

Ostermann will be studying pre-med.
