Huskie football hits field for spring camp

Saskatoon – Huskie football returns to the turf in Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park as the University of Saskatchewan squad hits the field for its 2018 spring camp.

Spring camp kicks off early Thursday morning with the Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites Dogs’ Breakfast at Prairieland Park and wraps up Sunday with the Green and White scrimmage.

Dogs’ Breakfast helps raise scholarship funds for the team. The guest speaker is Tony Mandarich. At the event, Huskie head coach Scott Flory will make an official announcement of new recruits to the team.

Mandarich’s personal story of drug-use and his recovery will be brought to local high schools on Wednesday. Mandarich will speak to how his addiction ruined his career. He was Canada’s highest NFL draft pick, going second overall in 1989.

The players will hit the field Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the first practice of the weekend. They suit up again Friday at 6 p.m., 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Saturday and finally 10:30 a.m. Sunday for the green and white scrimmage. All fans, supporters, alumni, family and friends are invited to attend any of the practices during the camp.
