Victoria, BC: The Eves of Destruction development team, the Hard Cores, traveled to Nanaimo on Saturday May 12th. They gave the Island derby community an excitingly well-matched game, ultimately falling to the Harbour City Rollers Shiprex with a final score of 202-167. The game thrilled fans with several lead changes, and it was only in the last few jams that the Shiprex pulled away with the win.
Hard Cores Captain Violet Criminal says the team enjoyed the game, no matter the outcome.
“It was a good bout! Harbour City is always a tough competitor on the track, and they make us work for every point.”
The Hard Cores MVP honours were given to Fat Bottomed Hurls for jamming and Miss Andry for blocking, to a chorus of cheers from their teammates for these well-deserved distinctions.
The Hard Cores game also featured two skaters playing in their first derby games: rookies Dynamo Dash and Pushycat, both of whom put their training to the test and proved to be assets to their team.
Dynamo Dash says her nerves dissipated as soon as she hit the track.
“It was an incredibly athletic and challenging game, but had good sportsmanship demonstrated from both teams. I felt amazing support from my team bench. I loved every second of it and cannot wait to hit the track for my next game!”
