A legion of fans packed Esquimalt’s Archie Browning Arena Saturday night (May 19th) to witness two exciting games featuring the Eves’; Rotten Apples and The Hard Cores who took on Saltspring Island’s The Tempest and the Aftershocks Roller Rebels from Marysville, WA, respectively. Both games ended in decisive wins for the home teams.
The first game of the night posted a big win for the Rotten Apples, their first win at home in 4 years, with a score of 327 – 132 over The Tempest. Rotten Apples Coach reGretel, says the hometown win was a long time coming:
“This is the Rotten Apples’ third win in a row and the team got less penalties this game than the last time they faced the Salt Spring Island Tempest April 28. The skaters worked hard on cohesive offensive plays leading up to last night’s victory. I have seen a remarkable improvement this past year in skater commitment and team dynamic.”
Slam Duncan was named the Rotten Apples MVP Jammer, while Drew Burymore, a pickup skater from the Stone Cold Stellas, was named MVP Blocker.
In the second game of the night the Eves’ Hard Cores, were victorious against the Aftershocks Roller Rebels, besting them 314 – 142. Team Co-Captain Violet Criminal, says it was an absolute pleasure to play the Aftershocks:
“They were tough opponents on the track with an amazing attitude. I’m so proud of how the Hard Cores have come together this season as a united team. It’s an honour to get to captain such a group of talented people!”
Violet Criminal was also named the Hard Cores MVP player.
