June 2, 2018 Colwood, BC – The Victoria Shamrock’s Junior Tier 1 “B” and Junior “A” teams were in action Saturday afternoon at the Q Centre with mixed results. The Junior “B” would prevail over the New Westminster Salmonbellies 14-8, while the Junior “A” squad would fall victim to the Coquitlam Adanacs by an 11-2 score.
The Tier 1 team hosted the New Westminster Salmonbellies looking for redemption after a 1-goal loss on the mainland last Sunday. They had a superb outing to come away with a 14-8 victory. Isaac Swan, Casey Wilson, Jonathan Boyd, Brody Black and Patrick Dodds each had a pair of goals with Dodds adding 7 assists. Denton Macdonald had a 6-point night on a goal and 5 helpers with other goals coming from Colt Gnech, Garrett Wicks and Brayden McQuarrie.
The Tier 1 Rocks are on the road Sunday to play the Langley Thunder. Next home game is next Saturday, June 10 when they will host the Port Coquitlam Saints in a 1:00 pm start.
The Jr. ‘A’ Rocks played host to a Coquitlam Adanacs team that found their legs after the first twenty minutes of play, showing their offensive power in the last two periods of action to dominate the Rocks. Cam Dunkerley would get the nod in net to start the game for the Shamrocks against Coquitlam netminder Christain DelBianco.
The game was close through the first 20 minutes with Coquitlam holding a 3-2 lead going into the dressing room, but the Shamrocks could not manage another goal as Coquitlam would rattle off eight unanswered goals to take an 11-2 decision. The Rocks would dominate on shots net, holding a decided 41-31 edge in the game, but would be held of the score sheet but some strong Adanac goal keeping the remainder of the game.
Ben Preston and Jake Campbell would be the only Shamrocks to find the back of the net in the game for the green and white.
Next action for the Jr. ‘A’ Rocks is next Saturday at 4:00 pm when they will take on the Langley Thunder.
