Fans filled Esquimalt’s Archie Browning Arena Saturday night (June 2nd) to witness two high intensity battles featuring the Eves’ house teams; The Belles of the Brawl and The Margarita Villains who took on the Strait Shooters from Port Angeles, WA and the Island Smash-Up team, respectively. Both games ended in big wins for the home teams.
The first game of the night ended in decisive win for the Belles of the Brawl, who are 3-0 this season, with a score of 328 – 53 over the Strait Shooters. Strong jammers posted high points including 76 points for Kariac Arrest and 62 points for team captain and MVP Toombstone, while strong defensive blocking walls held the opposing team to only 53 points total.
Veteran skater Bony Banshee, returning after an ankle injury and knee reconstruction last season, was proud of her team’s performance:
“It was my first game back in almost a year. It felt great to be on the track with my teammates. I think we had a solid game, and I was really happy to have the opportunity to jam again. Not that it was easy getting past the Strait Shooters’ blockers, they hit hard!”
Toombstone was named the Belles of the Brawl MVP Jammer, while Rage was named MVP Blocker.
In the second game of the night the Eves’ Margarita Villains, were victorious against the Island Smash-Up team, besting them 212 – 154. The Villains roster included former Rotten Apples Jr. skater Femme Fatality who scored 36 pts jamming in their first home game in the green and black. Captain, Tina F. Lawless says her team, which included several rookies, is coming together:
“I think we played incredibly well as a unit. We stepped up our focus and really concentrated on stopping the opposing jammers. Our bench was so encouraging, and we were just so stoked to be playing derby. It was such a blast.”
Femme Fatality was named the Margarita Villains MVP Jammer, while No Mer’Sea was named MVP Blocker.
