After a lengthy try-out process the 2018 Vancouver Island field lacrosse team has been finalized. “It’s been a long time coming “said Sean Walmsley, one of the coaches of the team along with Joel Smith and Wil Chiasson. “We started evaluating players back in February till June, trying to get out to as many games as possible in addition to try-outs to get a sense of the players skills that were trying out for the team. There were 57 players signed up and the skill level was high so it was a tough task to whittle the team down to 19 players. We believe we have a pretty well-rounded team with grit, size, skill, and speed that will be tough team to play against.”

Jace Francis and Lucas Quayle, two of the players selected to the team are excited to be a part of the team. When Francis from Pacific Rim Youth Field Lacrosse was asked what he thought was the most exciting part of making the team he replied “I’m really looking forward to making some new life long time friendships with the boys I don’t really know that well right now, I think we are going to do awesome, we have a lot of talent on the team and I’m really excited to play with the boys.” Quayle who plays for Victoria Youth Field Lacrosse was equally excited about being selected followed up Francis’s comments with “I think the team will do really well, we have a great group of very talented athletes, we are a well-rounded team, everyone’s style of play complements everyone else’s. Our strength will be how we work together as a team. “

The 2018 BC Summer Games take place in the Cowichan Valley from July 19-22. The field lacrosse venue is Forrest Field in beautiful Ladysmith BC
