AUSTIN, Texas – Four members from the University of Victoria have been recognized for their outstanding work both on and off the field by being named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division At-Large Teams includes student-athletes from the NAIA, U SPORTS as well as two-year Junior Colleges.

The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.

From the Vikes: Judy Beestermoeller a third-year rower, Lindsay Cole a field hockey player in her fourth year, third-year golfer Quinn Fitzgerald and Josh Zakala a second-year swimmer all earned the right to be recognized among some of the top student-athletes both on the field of play as well as in the classroom.

Beestermoeller, originally from Hamburg Germany, earned a spot on the 2017-18 Academic All-America® Women’s At-Large First Team after compiling a 4.0 GPA in the faculty of science while simultaneously competing in crews that won the reserve eight ‘B’ Final at the San Diego Crew Classic as well as the Dowd-Campbell Cup at the Brown Cup.

Hailing from Victoria, Cole is no stranger to accolades, having previously won the University of Victoria Provost Award for Excellence as well as the Gail Wilson Outstanding Contributor Award. Her 4.0 GPA in the faculty of science combined with her three goals and strong play as the captain of the Vikes, earned her a spot on the First-Team.

Fitzgerald, from Calgary Alta. earned a nod to the Second-Team after an outstanding 2017-18 season saw her finish in a tie for fourth at the Canadian National Championships, leading the Vikes to a silver medal. In the classroom, Fitzgerald also compiled a GPA of 4.0 in the faculty of science.

Rounding out the Vikes contingent earning accolades was Zakala, who recorded a GPA of 4.0 in the faculty of engineering. In the pool Zakala earned a silver medal in the 400-m IM at the U SPORTS Championships as well as a silver and bronze at the Canada West Championships.
