Youth teams from the EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) will take to the pitches on Saturday June 23rd and Sunday June 24th to play for the BC Soccer Provincial Premier Cup.
All of the finals are hosted this year by the Vancouver Island Wave over two days at Westhills and Goudy Stadiums. The last time a provincial soccer championship was hosted on the southern part of the island was in 2005.
There are eight franchises in the BCSPL, one from the Island, one from the Interior and the remaining six from the lower mainland. The BCSPL provides an elevated level of competition for high performance players in BC. The Vancouver Island Wave franchise is made up of players from the Lower Island Soccer Association and the Upper Island Soccer Association.
The VI Wave will be represented in the provincial finals by at least two teams. On Saturday June 23rd the Wave will participate in U14 Boys coached by Victor Fereira and the U15 Boys coached by Blair Sturrock and Riley O’Neil. The girls semi-finals are tomorrow (June 17th) and we will be watching Vancouver Island Wave semi-finalists Girls U16 coached by Steph Steiner and Lyle Eggen and Girls U18 coached by Dave Dew. They play at Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE) at noon and 3pm respectively.
Last season the VI Wave brought home provincial trophies in the U14 boys and U16 boys competitions and were also finalists in the U13 boys and U18 girls competitions.
