Saturday June 23rd was a monumental day in the Vancouver Island Wave soccer program. In addition to hosting the BC Soccer Provincial Premier Cup for the first time in franchise history, two Wave boy’s teams won provincial titles and one of them in the age category to earn them a Nationals bid – and it isn’t over yet! The U16 VI Wave girls will play for gold tomorrow (Sunday, June 24th) vs Surrey United at Westhills Stadium at noon.
The U14 boys lead the way by beating Mountain United 1-0. This team coached by Victor Ferreira showed they are a force to be reckoned with after advancing to the finals for a second year in a row and this year raising the cup. Sebastian Magana was the lone goal scorer and Émile Abelé received the game MVP.
The U15 boys also captured a BC Soccer Provincial Premier Cup today in Victoria, coached by Blair Sturrock and Riley O’Neil. The game was a rematch of last year’s final versus Surrey and the Wave came out victorious again this year. However in addition to winning the trophy the team has also advanced as the British Columbia representative to Canada Soccer’s U15 National Championships to be held in Laval, Quebec at Thanksgiving. This is the first National Championship appearance for the Wave program. Armaan Nijjar, from Lower Island Soccer Association’s Lakehill Soccer Association and Caleb Vallance from Upper Island’s Soccer Association’s Powell River scored for the Wave in the 2-1 victory.
