Duncan, BC, Canada – Queen Margaret’s School honoured its top athletes at the annual Athletic Awards banquet held on campus in June.
Select athletes were repeat winners throughout the evening, such as Danica Moschenross (Grade 8) who won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in junior soccer, the Vernon Trophy for equestrian and Midget Athlete of the Year, Skye Koyote (Grade 10) who won MVP in rugby, the Spirit Award in soccer and Junior Athlete of the Year while Julienne Chipesia (Grade 11) who earned the Spirit Award for swimming, MVP for cross country and Senior Athlete of the Year.
Graduating athlete Alexis Elliott won MVP honours for soccer, while classmate Heather Ellard-Webster earned the Burton Trophy for progress in riding for Grades 11-12 this season.
“This year’s athletes really impressed me,” says Senior Athletics Director Marlene Donaldson. “They were dedicated to improving their skills, being positive role models for their peers, were disciplined in their work ethic and displayed incredible growth. I’m excited to welcome them back in September and kick-off an exciting year!”
Head of School, Wilma Jamieson also praised the athletes’ ability to lift each other up. “To me, empowerment means fostering an environment of trust, learning from successes and analyzing failures,” she shares. “We want to celebrate QMS athletes and teams for taking risks, continuously searching for ways to improve and throughout the process, make each other stronger. Congratulations athletes.”
