Canada breezed by Costa Rica 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-7) to stay undefeated at 2-0 in Pool A of the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo on Monday.

Once again, Kiera Van Ryk played a key role in Canada’s offensive effort by blasting a tournament-high nine aces, included in her 14 points. Van Ryk scored eight points from the service line against Peru on Sunday.

Canada overwhelmed Costa Rica in all the scoring categories with a 31-5 in attacks and 17-1 in aces to go with an 8-1 margin in blocks.

Emily Maglio and Alicia Ogoms contributed 11 and 10 points in the victory while Alexa Gray chipped in with nine points. Tannia Carazo had three points for a Costa Rican team that scored 20 of their 27 points via opponent’s errors.

Tomorrow, Canada will face its biggest challenge so far, as it meets hosts Dominican Republic in the final pool match at 8 pm local time.
