Quesnel to host both Men’s and Women’s 2018 Curl BC Championships

This coming season the BC Men’s and Women’s Championships will be held simultaneously at the same location, with Quesnel hosting the two provincial events from January 29 to February 3, 2019.

Quesnel was announced as the host of the 2019 BC Men’s Championship last December, and with the announcement that they will now also be hosting the 2019 Scotties BC Women’s Championship, the original dates of both events have been changed to January 29 to February 3 in order to accommodate the hosting of both events concurrently.

The two championships will be held at Quesnel’s new West Fraser Centre, an arena that is equipped with an ice surface and seating for 1,300 people.

“We’re super excited to be able to host a Men’s and Women’s Championship event in the city of Quesnel in a brand new arena,” said Quesnel Curling Centre coordinator Dave Plant. “I think that having the 20 best men’s and women’s teams in one venue in the North in a 1,300 seat arena with lots of viewing, it’s just going to be tremendous for the area in the North to be able to put this on. [We’re] in a brand new arena with top of the line refrigeration [and] we’re ecstatic about it.”

“Curl BC is very pleased that the City of Quesnel has stepped up to host the BC Women’s and Men’s Curling Championships together at the new West Fraser Centre,” said Curl BC CEO Scott Braley. “Normally these championships are held separately, but this is a fantastic opportunity for both the women and men to compete on arena ice and best practice for preparing the winners for the Scotties and Brier respectively. This promises to be a great promotion for curling in the Northwest region of BC.”

The 2019 BC Men’s Championship will feature 12 men’s teams competing for the chance to represent BC at the Tim Hortons Brier. The 12 teams will play a modified triple knockout with a four-team page playoff.

The 2019 Scotties BC Women’s Championship will feature eight women’s teams competing for the chance to represent BC at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The eight teams will play a round robin with a four-team page playoff.
