Blue Jays Make More Moves After Trading Roberto Osuna

TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired minor league RHP COREY COPPING from the LOS ANGELES DODGERS in exchange for RHP JOHN AXFORD.

 

COPPING, 24, is 4-0 with a 2.52 ERA in 35 games for the Tulsa Drillers of the Texas League (AA) and the Oklahoma City Dodgers of the Pacific Coast League (AAA). The 6-1, 175 lb. right-handed pitcher has pitched 53.2 innings this season allowing 44 hits with 26 walks and 59 strikeouts. The native of Pasadena, CA owns a career record of 11-4 and a 3.37 ERA in four minor league seasons.

 

AXFORD, 35, is 4-1 with a 4.41 ERA in 45 games with one start for the Blue Jays this season. The 6-5, 220 lb. right-handed pitcher has pitched 51.0 innings this season allowing 44 hits with 20 walks and 50 strikeouts. The native of Simcoe, Canada owns a career record of 38-34 with a 3.78 ERA and 144 saves in 538 games for seven different teams (2009-2018).

BLUE JAYS have acquired minor league RHP JACOB WAGUESPACK from the PHILADEPHIA PHILLIES in exchange for LHP AARON LOUP.

 

WAGUESPACK, 24, is 4-6 with a 4.68 ERA in 21 games for the Reading Fightin Phils of the Eastern League (AA) and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs of the International League (AAA). The 6-6, 225 lb. right-handed pitcher has pitched 82.2 innings this season allowing 85 hits with 36 walks and 79 strikeouts. The native of Waco, TX owns a career record of 17-16 and a 3.67 ERA in four minor league seasons.

 

LOUP, 30, is 0-0 with a 4.54 ERA in 50 games for the Blue Jays this season. The 5-11, 210 lb. left-handed pitcher has pitched 35.2 innings this season allowing 44 hits with 13 walks and 42 strikeouts. TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired RHP KEN GILES, RHP DAVID PAULINO and minor league RHP HECTOR PEREZ from the HOUSTON ASTROS in exchange for RHP ROBERTO OSUNA.

 

GILES, 27, is 0-2 with a 4.99 ERA in 34 games with 12 saves for the Astros this season.  The 6-2, 205 lb. right-handed pitcher has pitched 30.2 innings this season allowing 36 hits with three walks and 31 strikeouts.  The native of Albuquerque, NM owns a career record of 12-14 with 77 saves and a 2.72 ERA in 279 games for Houston and Philadelphia (2014-2018).

 

PEREZ, 22, is 3-4 with a 3.73 ERA in 21 games with two saves for the Buies Creek Astros of the Carolina League (A) and the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Texas League (AA). The 6-3, 190 lb. right-handed pitcher has pitched 89.1 innings this season allowing 62 hits with 48 walks and 101 strikeouts. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic owns a career record of 16-11 and a 3.15 ERA in four minor league seasons.

 

PAULINO, 24, is 0-0 with a 4.67 ERA in seven games for the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) and the Gulf Coast League Astros (rookie).
