August 2nd, 2018 Langford, BC (ISN) – On the eve of the opening of the 2018-2019 British Columbia Football Conference season ISN’s Erich Eichhorn gives us a look behind the final preparations as South Vancouver Island’s very own Westshore Rebels set their sights on their opening match up with the Langley Rams this Saturday afternoon at McLeod Stadium in Langley, BC.
Described at a “New Era” team for many reasons, head coach Charly Cardilicchia has many reasons to be confident of his team this season. Despite the loss of many BCFC and CJFL alumni Rebel all-star players this year due to age and CIS signings, the Rebels appear to have done well with their off season recruiting bringing most notably the defensive likes such as UBC alumni lineman Jamiel Moore-Williams.
On the offensive side of the ball, their are any number off weapons to Cardilicchia’s disposal, however his receiving core will appear to be the strongest seen in a few years for the red and white. Look to the return of WR D’Saun Greenaway on the long ball to climb a few ladder’s with his 6’5″ frame to help move the sticks this season. Greenaway, amassing 627 yards receiving last season, will certainly be on the Rams radar Saturday. In their last regular season meeting last year, Greenaway was instrumental in the Rebels 17 point, second half comeback, pulling in 83 yards and two TD’s on 8 receptions in the 33-28 win.
“ We are replacing a lot of elder players with young kids. We are a young team, but we have some really good, young talent, and then there is some really good, older leadership. The leadership is really infectious right now so the locker room is strong. The encouragement is there (for the younger players). It will be kind of a new era (for the team)”, Cardilicchia would comment earlier about his team.
Here is a look at some of the Westshore Rebels’ preparations for Saturday’s meeting with the Rams.
