A packed house of fans were treated to a fast-paced, hard-hitting match in the Belles of the Brawl 251 to 105 win Saturday (Sept 15th) over the Margarita Villains at Archie Browning Sports Centre. This marks the return of the Calamity Cup, named for Eves of Destruction league founder Calamity Carnage, to the Brawlers for the first time since 2015.

The game was led by the Belles of the Brawl in its entirety, but the Villains closed the gap to within 40 points in the middle which lit a fire under the Brawlers to finish strong. Brawlers Co-Captain, Hot Piece-a-Sass, was impressed with the team’s performance:

“It’s a fantastic feeling watching all the buildings blocks come together. We’ve been working hard over the last two years to become a solid unit, starting from the ground up. Our effort has finally paid off and I couldn’t be more proud of my team.”

Brawlers MVP’s were Banshee (Jammer) and Hot Piece-a-Sass (Blocker.) Villains MVP’s were Femme Fatality (Jammer) and No Mer’sea (Blocker.)

Prior to the headlining bout the Eves’ Junior team, The Rotten Apples, took the win over Washington’s Department of Derby 376-182 to close out their season undefeated. Rotten Apples Co-Coach, reGretel, says the team has seen many changes throughout the year including the addition of 8 newcomers.

“The Rotten Apples have spent months focusing on specific strategic plays. Players looked calm and in-control, knowing what their next moves should be. I was particularly proud of how our experienced skaters mentored their newer teammates on the track during gameplay. I heard a lot of effective communication among the team while they were making good plays. Every one of the five Rotten Apples Coaches is filled with pride today.”

The Rotten Apple MVPs were Kid Vicious (Jammer) and Black Eye Suze (Blocker.)

The Eves of Destruction would like to thank our fans, sponsors, and volunteers for their continued support during the 12th season of roller derby in Victoria!

The Eves now head into their off-season, and will prepare for the 2019 season with weekly practices at Eagle Ridge Community Centre.
