KAMLOOPS, BC—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team have finished with a record of  a win and two losses at their inaugural “Battle of the Borders” exhibition tournament. The tournament-which featured three schools from Alberta and three from British Columbia wrapped up on Saturday (Sept 29) night at the Tournament Capital Centre.

The Pack opened up play on Friday (Sept 28) with a straight set victory over the MacEwan Griffins. The scores were 25-21,25-22,26-24.  They followed that up with a straight set defeat at the hands of the University of Alberta Pandas. The scores were 25-21,25-19,25-21.

Thompson Rivers wound up play on Saturday with a 3-1 setback to Mount Royal University. The Cougars won 25-22,25-20,18-25,25-15.

WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm stated afterwards, “ There were both good and bad aspects from the weekend. I thought we got better on some of the things we worked on leading up to the tournament. A little bit better with our shot selection, cycling and recovering the ball.  I think we need to start to identify a bit more our game play and what we are taking. We are a bit disoriented on somethings we need to clean up. As a coaching staff, we need to make those things clearer. I think the first few weeks of the season, we have had some real defined focuses on having good second touch and things that we need to be good at to be successful. Now the second part of the pre season, we have to get more into the game play side of things and make those things solid. We have bene getting away with giving up three straight points. We have to be more of a tough serving team. We have to pass the ball better and diversify offensively in order to be successful.  I think those are the focuses that we have to go towards. I think the girls will have to really push themselves out of their comfort zone in order to do those things that aren’t usually that comfortable for them.  Knowing that its part of the process that they have to go through to be successful.”

The WolfPack open their 2017-18  Canada West regular season at the Tournament Capital Centre on Friday, October 23rd when they entertain the UBC Thunderbirds on the Warner Rentals Court.  Game time is 5 pm
