October 14th, 2018 Victoria, BC ( ISN ) – The Victoria Spartans midget football team would dominate from the opening kick off and roll to a 33-0 win at Westhills Stadium in Langford Sunday afternoon to sweep their two-game regular season matchup in the Vancouver Mainland Football League
With the win the Spartans even their record at 3-3 with hopes of jumping up in the standings from their current fourth place spot and into a tie for second place in their 12-man football division with only three games remaining in the regular season.
The Spartans defensive core would set the stage early, forcing their first of two Longhorn touchbacks to open the scoring in the game. Pushing Delta’s offensive line back seemingly at will, the Spartan D-line would be responsible for no fewer that three interceptions in the game to help set the table for a balanced offensive attack on the ground and through the air with QB Kalen Jules under centre.
Longhorn’s starting QB Osmond Chong would be hurried frequently under the pressure of the larger, more aggressive defensive line of the Spartans.
Going up 17-0 at the half on the touch back, and TD’s by Carter Price and Magnus Lam, the Spartans would continue to roll over the winless Longhorns in the second half with another TD’s and a touchback to cruise to the victory.
The, now third place, Spartans will now travel to the Cowichan Valley to take on the 2-3 Bulldogs October 21st at McAdam Park in the “rubber” match of a three game, regular season series that saw the Bulldogs prevail 23-1 in their season opener, and the Spartans bounce back with a 14-0 win three weeks ago to even the series a win a piece.
