October 19, 2018 Langford, BC ( ISN ) – The Belmont Bulldogs junior varsity football team is starting to turn some heads in football circles as they extended their undefeated winning streak Thursday afternoon with a 48-12 win over the visiting Handsworth Royals of North Vancouver.
For the Bulldogs, their start to the season has been nothing short of dominating. Outscoring their opponents 170-30 over a pair of preseason and two regular season games to date, the Bulldogs have a midseason hold on first place in their BC High School Junior Varsity AAA Coastal Division.
With the combination of starting Bulldog’s QB Hunter Bowles and back up QB Simon Hales under center, Belmont’s offense would never be a question, jumping out to a 13-0 lead to start the first quarter with TD’s by Brennan Blondeau and Gerren Hardisty.
Belmont’s strong defensive front line would continue to flex the muscle they showed in their 34-6, statement win over cross town rival Mount Doug Rams two weeks ago. Witt Nevins, playing both sides of the ball, would score the next two touchdowns for his Bulldogs, including great defensive effort for a pick-six interception and twenty-nine yard run back for the TD to put his team in control 27-6 just before the half.
Hunter Bowles, with time running out in the second quarter would be the benefactor of a Hales handoff to rush for his team’s fifth touchdown, and a 34-6 halftime lead.
Riley Berfelo and Jason Alexander, continuing the momentum, would add to the scoring in the second half to give the Bulldogs a 48-12 final.
The Bulldogs, with two games remaining, will look to lock down a playoff spot and home field advantage with their final home game of the regular season next week versus another strong Vancouver squad in the 2-1 Carson Graham Eagles.
The Eagles only loss so far this season was to the visiting Mt. Doug Rams by a score of 45-24 in another Thursday afternoon BCHSFB matchup yesterday.
