Thursday was a great day of tennis and filled with matches featuring third set tiebreakers. Half of the quarterfinal matches in the boys and girls competition went to three sets with two matches on the girls draw “going down the wire”.
In the “Match of Day” on the girls side saw Karin Hamilton of Alberta defeated Jenna Defalco the number one seed from California 7-6 in a third set tiebreaker.
- Likewise, Mia Kupres Canada’s National U14 Champion beat fellow Albertan Hana Gamracy 7-6 in a third set tiebreaker. Gamracy lead all the way in the and the tide turned in the tiebreaker with Kupres winning 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
- Daniel Tuhten and Chole yoo played the long match of the day with Tuheten winning in three sets.
- The final girls quarterfinal head Lenna Bennetto defeated Chiho Mushika in a tight 6-4, 6-4 battle.
On the boys side, “The match of day” saw first seed Luka Vukovic defeat Nedim Suko of Seattle in a close two setter with Vukovic winniing 7-6,7-5.
Spectator and tournament officials commented it was great tennis similar level to that of a Mens Futures Pro event.
Cezar Rata of Phoenix, Jovan Sihota and Maxime Mareschal – Hay of Quebec also booked spots in the semifinal on Friday.
