If the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack would have charged for their exhibition basketball game on Thursday (Oct 18), the fans attending would have got their money’s worth and more.
The WolfPack and the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves went to triple overtime in their men’s preseason game on the Warner Rentals court at the Tournament Capital Centre. The Timberwolves prevailed 117-114.
The WolfPack led 17-12 after the first quarter but it was UNBC—based on a 25-14 second quarter who led by six: 37-31 at half time.
TRU came out and outscored the Timberwolves 28-18 in the third quarter and took a three point lead (59-56). But UNBC had 23 fourth quarter points to TRU’s 19 to leave the teams deadlocked at 78 at the conclusion of regulation time.
The teams each scored 13 points in each of the first two extra periods before UNBC prevailed in the third overtime by outscoring TRU 13-10.
The Timberwolves had four players in double figures led by Jovan Leamy who had 45 points and 14 rebounds (11 on the defensive glass). James Agyeman added 23 points. Anthony Hokanson had 19 points and 10 rebounds (six on defense) wile Vova Pluzhnikov had 13 points. Austin Chandler contributed 13 rebounds: ten of which were on defense.
For TRU: Enrico Nuno (4th year, forward, Half Moon Bay, CA) had 36 points and 12 rebounds (six at either end). Derek Rhodes (Antioch, CA) had 32 points for the WolfPack. Joe Davis (4th year, forward, Kamloops, BC0 added 14 points with Anton Bilous (4th year, guard, Cherkassy, Ukraine) contributed 13 points. Michael Rouault (4thyear, guard, Vernon, BC) had 11 points and 15 rebounds (nine defensively).
The Timberwolves turned over the ball 17 times to TRU’s 14.
The Pack bench outscored UNBC 15-13 while TRU had 50 points in the paint to the Timberwolves 48. Thompson Rivers had 22 points on second chances compared to the T-Wolves 17.
The WolfPack close out their exhibition campaign on Saturday afternoon (Oct 20) in Kelowna, BC as they visit the UBCO Heat.
TRU kicks off their 2018-19 Canada West regular season on Friday, October 26th in Abbotsford, BC when they meet up with the University of Fraser Valley Cascades. Their home opener is Friday, November 9th at the Tournament Capital Centre. They will meet the University of Victoria Vikes in a 7 pm tip off.
