The Victoria Grizzlies shutout the Nanaimo Clippers 6-0, on Thursday. With goaltender Kurtis Chapman blocking all 38 shots faced, collecting his 2nd shutout of the season. Kurtis’s record is now at a 13-6-0 record putting him at second in the league for wins right behind Clay Stevenson Coquitlam Express.
The first period remained scoreless as both teams were not quite getting the shots they were hoping for. It would take until the second period as the Grizzlies were able to find the back of the net, not just once but five goals from Nico Sommerville, Marty Westhaver, Riley Hughes, Edward Yan, and Carter Berger. The Grizzlies were able to find most of their success in the 2nd period which would drain almost all of the Clippers energy.
The Third period came around as the frustrated Nanaimo Clippers started hitting hard and working harder in hopes of one goal, But the Grizzlies were able to score one more as Cameron Thompson scoring his 9th of the season sealing the deal as the Grizzlies went on to take it. Captain Alex Newhook picked up two points making him tied for points in the BCHL. Newhook is expected to be drafted in the 2019 NHL draft around the first round. He leads his team with points and is going to be an asset for an NHL team.
