BC Lions placekicker and punter Ty Long has been selected to represent the West Division as its Outstanding Special Team Player at the 2018 CFL Player Awards.

Leading the league in both base punting yards (48.8) and net punting yards (38.5), the second-year Leo and two-time West Division All-Star (punter) was remarkably consistent throughout the 2018 regular season.

When he wasn’t ‘flipping the field’ with a CFL-best 37.9-yard average field position change, the Georgia native was good on 31 of 32 converts and 43 of 49 field goal attempts including a remarkable seven-for-seven from 50+ yards.

This is the first West Division Outstanding Player selection for Long whose two-year run as a Lion includes 36 games, an 88.2% success rate on field goals and a base punting average of 48.8 yards.

The Lions continue to prepare for this Sunday’s Eastern Semi-Final versus the Tiger-Cats which kicks off at 10:00 am locally.
