Broncos pump 48 shots but can’t score

Swift Current resumed their three-game home stand on Saturday evening as they welcomed the Medicine Hat Tigers to the Innovation Credit Union i-Plex for the first of four meetings this season. 48 shots were fired on goal by the Broncos but the team remains snake-bitten as they were blanked for the second consecutive night 2-0.

Tigers forward Ryan Chyzowski scored an unassisted marker at the 8:34 mark of the first period to put the Broncos down 1-0.

The Kamloops, BC product was at it again when he tallied his ninth of the season and second of the night to grow the Tigers lead to 2-0. Josh Williams and Daniel Baker tallied the assists on the goal.

Trailing 2-0 going into the second period, Swift Current drew two more penalties against the Tigers, giving the Broncos their third and fourth power plays of the night. Man advantages still weren’t helping the Broncos find the score sheet as Tigers goaltender Mads Sogaard was consistent in stopping 12 shots during the second.

Swift Current spent the duration of the third in Tigers territory and laid on the pressure, firing 20 shots on goal to boost the club’s total to a season-best 48.

The Broncos pulled goaltender Joel Hofer for the extra attacker with two minutes remaining but not one of their shot attempts found the back of the net as Swift Current dropped its third straight outcome to fall to 3-18-1-1 on the year.

Sogaard compiled 48 saves for the shutout while the Broncos’ Hofer was solid with a 28 save outing.

Shots on goal were 48-30 in favour of Swift Current. The Broncos power play unit finished 0/4 while the Tigers were scoreless on their lone attempt.
