December 3, 2018 Victoria, BC – For the fifth time in eight years, the Mount Douglas Rams have captured the Varsity AAA Championship. The Rams played their best game of the season on the biggest stage, and stormed away with a 48-24 victory over New West Hyacks Saturday night at BC Place Stadium.
After spotting the Hyacks 6 points, the Rams responded with a pounding offense and a stifling defense to take a 21-12 lead in the half time break before erupting for 4 second half touchdowns en route to the decisive win.
Gideone Kremler accounted for 303 yards of total offense with 105 yards rushing and 3 majors, coupled with 198 yards passing and 1 touchdown strike. Gideone was simply sensational as he closed out a spectacular High School career with a Provincial Championship, after leading the Rams to 2015 Championship as the starting Varsity quarterback while only in grade 9…an amazing story!
As a team, the Rams rushed for 389 yards and 6 touchdowns and passed for 222 yards and 1 touchdowns…any time your offense goes for over 600 total yards, good things are going to happen!
Zairech Kremler was outstanding once again, rumbling his way to 141 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns. Sam Mosky was the third Rams ball carrier to eclipse the century mark with 115 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. Joe Lucas was the leading receiver for the Rams with 4 receptions for 107 yards, while Sebastian Hansen had 4 catches for 48 yards and 1 touchdown.
Offensively, the Rams rushed for 389 yards and 6 touchdowns, passing for 222 yards and 1 touchdowns…any time your offense goes for over 600 total yards, good things are going to happen!
The exemplary play of the Offensive Line continued for the Rams, and led the charge for Rams. Ivan Xu, Matt Ounsted, Caleb Carrier, Jackson McEwan, Aiden Bertuzzi and Roman Dujela all deserve much recognition for their stellar play…well done fellas!
The Rams’ defense was nothing short of brilliant and followed the magnificent game plan installed by Coach Tom Fong. Zairech Kremler played a monster game and was the Rams leading tackler with 11 for the game. Aidan Wold fought hard throughout the contest and registered 9 tackles and 3 sacks, as did grade 10 phenom Cole Bunting who had 8 tackles and 3 sacks. Joe Lucas and Gideone Kremler played like warriors, and had 8 and 6 tackles, respectively.
Aiden Bertuzzi continued his dominant play with 5 tackles and 1 sack. Ivan Xu capped off a tremendous month of football, and had 4 tackles for the Rams. Peter Primeau chipped in with 3 tackles. Again, this was a tremendous effort by the entire Mount Douglas defense in shutting down the high octane New West offense.
Congratulations to all the players…your focus, determination, hard work and perseverance paid off !
The 2018 football season was a memorable and special year for the Rams, and I know the school will be putting together a celebratory rally for the players this week….stay tuned for details.
