The Victoria Cougars beat the Kerry Park Islanders in overtime 3-2. The match-up seemed to be what may be an early look at a playoff matchup. Kerry Park a team who recently has been surprising every team in the league climbing to 3rd in the VIJHL standings.
The playoff-like game was full of energy as many people showed up to see these two teams battle it out. The first period started as the Islanders came out battling hard, They were able to receive two power plays throughout the period but they were not able to capitalize. As the Cougars goaltender Owen Sikkes was able to stop all 9 shots he faced in the period.
The Cougars rough first period made them come out with a stronger plan to find the back of the net. It wasn’t until Victoria would get their first period of the game where they finally seemed to be able to put some pressure on the Islanders. They would then get another powerplay giving them the 5 on 3 advantage, which they had no shortage of capitalizing as Cam LeSergent went on to pick up his first goal as a Cougar. The Islanders then would have to pressure hard as Logan Furkalo scored making the game tied.
As the third period came the Islanders were quick to capitalize as Josh Parkin scored making it a 2-1 game for Kerry Park. Cougars were desperate to find a way to answer back as the halfway mark of the 3rd period came around. It wasn’t until Marshall Brown would score with 4:02 left. Regulation ended and both teams went on to pick a point, Victoria started the first period with hard pressure. Their hard work paid off as Booker Chacalias got the rebound and winning it for Victoria
