The Victoria Grizzlies shut out the Prince George Spruce Kings on Sunday 3-0. There’s no question that this game wouldn’t be a physical one and both teams battled for till the end. Prince George, a top-seeded team in the BCHL were not able to get anything past Kurtis Chapman, As Chapman picked up his fourth shutout of the season stopping all 37 shots he faced in all three periods. The Spruce Kings are no tied for 1st in the league with the Chilliwack Chiefs both having 54 points.
The first period started as the Victoria were eager to find the back of the net first. Carter Berger who recently has been playing extremely well, scored picking up his 21st of the season making it 1-0. The Spruce Kings would make an attempt to tie it up within the last ten minutes of the period but they wouldn’t be successful in doing so. The second period came as the Grizzlies wanted to gain the two-goal lead. Victoria had a way better second period as they were able to keep the puck within the Prince George zone for the majority of the period. They would eventually go on to score as Carter Berger picked up his 2nd of the night making it 2-0 Victoria. The score sheet would remain empty as neither teams were able to capitalize upping the physicality of the game.
Prince George knowing that they had to get back in the game we’re looking to get back from the two-goal deficit going into the 3rd period. The Kings would attempt to set things up looking for their first goal, but the Grizzlies defense was too dominate with Chapman stopping everything. Victoria knew they had to close out this win, they were able to pick up one last goal from Alex Newhook who got his 21st of the season. The period ended as the Spruce Kings were not able to get behind a strong Grizzlies defense, and strong goaltending. The three stars of the game were 3rd: Alex Newhook (1G, 1A) 2nd: Kurtis Chapman 37 saves and the shutout and the first star being Carter Berger who has scored 6 goals in his last 8 games.
