Canada’s women’s team recovered from a five-set loss on Saturday to Argentina to beat Cuba 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-22) in its second match of the XVIII edition of the Women’s Pan American Cup at the Gran Chimú Coliseum in Trujillo.

“We had a good response against Cuba after a very disappointing match against Argentina,” said Canada’s coach, Tom Black. The team will face host Peru on Monday evening.

“We can still get a lot better and the team is committed to that process. Peru is a good team and the match should have a great environment. We’re looking forward to competing.”

Canada’s strong serving game (7-2) helped in the contest against Cuba on Sunday. Canadian opposite Kiera Van Ryk contributed 16 points, followed by outside hitter Alexa Gray with 15. Cuba’s team captain, Diaris Perez, led the attack for her team with 16 points.

The match against Peru is at 20:00 local time (9 pm ET, 6 pm PT).

Canada is also preparing for the Pan Am Games, and the Olympic Qualification Tournament in Russia next month.
