Vancouver Whitecaps FC fell 4-0 to New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Gustavo Bou of the Revs opened up the scoring in added time of the first half and three more goals would come in the last 10 minutes of the match from Diego Fagúndez, Carles Gil, and Teal Bunbury.

With a busy month of July, head coach Marc Dos Santos continued to rotate his squad, making five changes from the last match, while Andy Rose stepped in as captain in place of Jon Erice. Theo Bair earned his second consecutive start and Maxime Crépeau was back in net after sitting out Saturday’s match.

Crépeau stood big in the first half, facing 17 shots and having another highlight-reel set-of-saves as he put a stop to two quick shots, including one from about six-feet away by Juan Fernando Caicedo while still on the ground.

It would be the Revs who opened up the scoring in first half added time from a set piece off Gil’s corner that found Bou at the top of the 18-yard box, sending it to the back of the net on his debut and ending the first half 1-0 for New England.

The ‘Caps started the second half with two chances from Venuto to Bair in the first 10 minutes of the second half, with one just kissing the inside of the post and coming back out into the hands of goalkeeper Matt Turner.

In the 76th minute, Crépeau stopped another big opportunity for the Revs as Cristian Penilla had found his way behind the ‘Caps line as the goalkeeper squared up and won the challenge. The Québec native made eight saves on the night, only one short from his season high.

With the ‘Caps pressing for a goal, New England would finish the game with three more at the other end for the final score.

Whitecaps FC are back at home this Saturday, July 20 when they host San Jose Earthquake. Kickoff at BC Place is at 7 p.m. PT. Cavalry FC then come to BC Place for the second leg of Round 3 in the Canadian Championship on Wednesday, July 24.
