Maple Ridge 12, Nanaimo 10

The Burrards found themselves ahead 6-1 after the first period and held on for their second straight win against the Timbermen. With the win, Maple Ridge now has 22 points and is in second place with a home matchup against the Langley Thunder on Tuesday to wrap up the season for them. Saturday night saw a heroic performance from Curtis Dickson aka Superman. Dickson had three goals and three assists and was named the first star of the game. Christian Del Bianco got his first win as a starter for the Burrards, getting his number in saves with 35.

Nanaimo got a good night from Colton Clark and Jon Philips, who each put up six points. Cam Wengreniuk and Brody Eastwood each had two goals, including the game-tying goal by Wengreniuk at 8:23 of the third and the leading goal by Eastwood less than a minute later. However, Maple Ridge would outscore Nanaimo 3-1 in the final 10 minutes to secure the win. This loss leaves Nanaimo with 20 points and is in third place with their next game being a road matchup against the Burnaby Lakers on Friday.

Victoria 12, Burnaby 8

It was all Shamrocks to start the game as Victoria opened with a 10-1 run. They didn’t look back as the Rocks clinched a playoff spot and have an opportunity for home-court advantage if they can get wins against New West and Coquitlam this week, both away from home. Victoria could do no wrong against the Lakers, especially Chris Boushy, who had four goals for the Shamrocks. Peter Dubenski made 38 stops on his way to his third straight win and sixth this season.

It’s no surprise that 10-1 was just too big of a lead to overcome for Burnaby. Robert Church had a five-point performance, including two goals and three assists, while Zak Boychuk received the loss. Boychuk stopped 27 of 32 shots in 43 minutes of game time. The loss puts the Lakers in fourth place with a critical Friday night contest coming up against the Nanaimo Timbermen with a potential playoff spot on the line.
