A pair of athletes hit the ground running in their first competition as members of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Track & Field team, as Kaitlyn Harrison and Dylan Bauman both earned victories at the Cougar Trot on September 14.

Competing against athletes from the University of Regina, the meet was a chance for the Huskies to both debut some new faces as well as an opportunity to shake off the rust for the returnees.

Harrison, a first year from Lumsden, SK crossed the finish line in a time of 23:40.75, narrowly edging out her teammate and fellow rookie Allison Grajczyk-Jelinski (23:59.44). Natalia Bidulka (24:43.03), Jaira Cross Child (25:56.38) and Katie Farmer (26:05.72) Finished fourth, sixth and seventh respectively for Saskatchewan.

On the men’s side, Dylan Bauman of Saskatoon completed the Huskies’ rookie sweep, finishing first in a time of 27:59.66.

Jared Welsh (28:40.59) and Anthony Antaya (28:50.53) also finished in the top-five, crossing the line in third and fourth place.

The meet was just the first of the Huskies’ season, next up they will host the Sled Dog Open in Victoria Park on September 28 before heading to Calgary for the revamped Canada West Championship on October 26.
