It was a scoreless game until late in the match. Both teams played great defensively with the Mariners having the better chances on the “O”.

The Mariners directed 12 shots to the net compared to just three by the Falcons. Samantha Seaborn was rock solid for the Falcons stopping 11 of the 12 shots she faced.

Her lone blemish came in the 85th minute when Saki Meshida scored her first of the season to break the scoreless tie. The goal would be the games only and the Mariners hung on to win their second of the season. Keeper Melanie Osborne earns her second shutout in the first three games of the year stopping all three shots.

The Royals remain perfect to open the season after some late game heroics and sit atop the PACWEST with a 3-0 record.

Just two minutes into the game Taylor Spong opened the scoring with her second of the season. The goal turned out to be the only one of the first half.
The lead however didn’t last too late into the second half. Adrianna Babinski scored her second of the season in the 58th minute drawing the game even.

Finally in the 76th minute Olivia Oritz scored her first goal of the season giving the Royals a victory. Keeper Tess Venables stopped four of the five shots she faced for the Royals, while the Blues’ netminder Nikki Gerbrandt saved six of the eight shots she saw.

MEN – SATURDAY

Douglas Royals 0

The Blues provided the pressure in the early going but Royals’ netminder Felipe Domingos was equal to the task turning away each shot.

With the game destined for overtime Adrian Sahagun somehow found the back of the net in the 89th minute giving the Blues a hard fought victory. Keeper Nick Luongo wasn’t tested with shots, saving the only three shots that came near him and recording the shutout

There seemed to be a number of shots directed at the keepers in this match.

Mariners’ forward Hector Valdez opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. It’s his second goal of the season.

The lead however was shorted lived as Falcons’ Stefan Jerkovic tied the content just three minutes later. The goal was his first of the season in the 26th minute.

With the game clock winding down Joey Ratcliffe scored his second of the season in the 83rd minute lifting the Falcons past the Mariners.
